1. "Win one for the Gipper. "
This quote originated in American football. Knute Rockne was the coach of the US Notre Dame team in the 1920s and George Gipp was his star player. Gipp fell ill and when dying he asked Rockne to promise that, when things were looking bad for the team, he should tell them to 'win one for The Gipper'.
Ronald Reagan played the part of Gipp in the 1940 film Knute Rockne: All American. In the movie and made this line famous.
"Sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper." - Ronald Reagan
Thanks to this movie role Reagan was given the nick name "Gipper" for the rest of his life.
2. "It ain't over until it's over." - Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa
Originally this quote came from Yogi Berra. "It ain't over till it's over," was an offhanded remark made during the 1973 season when the Mets were in last place. Berra helped manage the team back to the top, and the Mets won that year's division title. Rocky just happened to keep the line going and going and going, but what truer words were ever spoken. How many teams and individuals came back from the brink or dead last to win in the end. The only way to lose for sure is to quit.
3."But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!" - Rocky Balboa
4.“You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.” -Babe Ruth
This quote comes from the following written by Babe Ruth in 1940 for “The Rotarian” magazine in an article titled “Bat It Out!”
" A good player never stops until he’s actually out, running as hard for first base on the almost-certain-to-be-caught fly or grounder as he would if he were sprinting the 100-yard dash.
If Henry Ford hadn’t kept going in the early days despite ridicule, we would never have seen the Ford car. It’s been much the same with almost every great man you could name. He kept plugging when everybody said his chances of making first base were nil. You just can’t beat the person who never gives up."
5. "Nobody owes nobody nothing. You owe yourself." - Rocky Balboa
People have taken this quote in a lot of ways, I'm sure, but there is nothing more certain in the realm of health and fitness than this one. You owe it to yourself to lift those weights and run that mile. Nobody else can do it for you.
6. Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. - John F. Kennedy
Kennedy made health and fitness a priority in his administration.
