Now is the time to get into shape for summer!

Don't get me wrong, it's never too late to get into shape, but right now is the perfect time. In fact, anytime is the perfect time to start getting into shape.  As I write this, it's February, and spring is only just around the corner. I know it feels like winter, but as we all know, spring will come just as it always has. So why wait to spring to start getting ripped. The safest, most long lasting weight loss is to do so slowly, so it's imperative to think ahead.

That being said, why not keep an eye on the ball all year round. In the winter time we tend to gain weight. We can't get outside as much, and most of us aren't in an area where we can get vitamin D from the sun, but you can lift weights at a gym, run on a treadmill, exercise to one of the millions of exercise DVD routines out there, or just do your own made up workout routine inside your own home.

But the most valuable thing you can do is eat healthy. I and every other health enthusiast, can say it a million times, yet I know people will play around with the idea of eating right, but as if the devil were on their shoulder, they'll come up with reasons as to why it's impossible to do.

It's not impossible to eat healthy. It's not going to make you happy eating garbage, and it certainly will never satisfy you. Think of it this way, after you eat a doughnut, can you have just one? Oh, but you say it's because it's so good. No, actually it's addictive like cocaine, but good, not by a long shot.

Real food satisfies and with a reasonable serving provides vitamins and minerals the body needs for fuel until it is ready for the next go around, but sweets demand that you eat more and more regardless of how much is in your stomach. It's never enough because sweets do not provide real fuel.

So back to our theme, it's always time to prepare for spring and summer. Even if you are trying to build muscle mass in the winter, don't add extra fat that you don't need because when summer comes it will be that much harder to lose.

One thing to keep in mind, I do believe even with the best of diet plans, it is faster and easier to lose weight when the weather is warm, but that's no excuse to go full steam ahead with cookies and ice cream. Be smart, eat the right foods, and you'll own summer.

So are you serious about looking and feeling good for the spring and the summer? Then the number one priority is to remove all processed sugar and carbs from your diet.

It's all about meal replacement.

Instead of a waffle for breakfast, have an  apple. Instead of a fat drenched processed bacon, have a couple of eggs. You get to work and the boss has doughnuts laid out for you. Politely say, no thank you, and eat some nuts. The healthy fat will power your brain.

Can't wake up yet? It's 10 a.m. do you go for the soda? Nope, time for a cup of green tea.

It's 11 a.m. and your thirsty, must be ok to have a soda now. No, drink some water. Water satisfies thirst, not soda.

Lunch time, do not go to a restaurant to eat. Pull out your prepared meal that you made the day before. Surely, you cooked some lean organic chicken breasts, or maybe some wild caught Alaskan salmon. I know you didn't bring white bread because that's nothing but fat waiting to take residence in your body. No, you pull out some kale, maybe some more nuts, veggies that kind of thing.

Whatever you do you do not pull out anything that has more than 3 grams of sugar per serving listed on the ingredients. Fruit is fine of course as long as you don't have more than one at a time. I mean you wouldn't sit there at your desk, and eat more than one banana at a time, right?

It's 2 o'clock and you need a pick me up, so you head for the snack machine. No way, dude, pull out the avocado and a cup of green tea.

The day is over, more lean meat, veggies, mushrooms, maybe some black rice, and some sweet potatoes, and do your workout. Have fun of course.

Workouts over, reward yourself with a wise portion of yogurt, mixed with nuts, unsweetened coconut, some berries, and you've just refilled. Be careful though, you'll get a lot of sugar out of this, but you normally eat ice cream while watching TV at night, then this is a big improvement. If you are really gung ho serious, but you need something how about a couple of boiled eggs. After a workout it's a good idea to refuel, especially with protein.

This is just a few things. Just remember buy real food as much as humanly possible. Do not under any circumstances eat processed bread and processed carbs. Avoid processed sugar as if eating it would make your body fat and slowly poison you. Wait, it will, so you don't have to pretend.

Attitude is a huge part of preparing for summer. Get a can do, take no prisoners attitude about the food you eat now, and summer will be a breeze. I can almost guarantee that if anybody eating what most Americans feed on these days, were to suddenly start eating real food, and completely ditch the sugar snacks, they will lose fat. Don't starve yourself. Eat real food. Eventually, your body will correct itself and you'll lose fat. Just don't give in two months from now, or you'll have to start all over again.

Don't like the foods I mentioned. There are a lot more healthy choices out there. Just remember, no sugar. Sugar is the enemy, even in fruit it should be kept to a minimum, but if it's in a can or in a package it should almost be non-existent, if its listed at all. Stick to that rule of thumb, and you'll make a lot of progress, and no stinking white bread. That means no biscuits!

Anybody can do it. It's not rocket science by any means. Junk food is not the key to happiness any more than cigarettes, booze, or drugs are. Make good habits and watch the results come slowly but surely, and by a year's time you will be amazed.
